Why This Balance Matters
"If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." This powerful quote hits differently now that I’m living a life full of new commitments. I’m a mom, a college student studying cybersecurity, and I’ve recently returned to my passion for blogging and sharing wellness through skincare. Most days, I’m still figuring it out.
Back when I was only homeschooling my daughter, I had a lot more flexibility to get everything done. I thought I could keep that same pace while taking on business and school, but I quickly realized I couldn’t. That’s why planning, having systems, and leaning into grit have become non-negotiable.
Thankfully, I have a mentor early in my tech journey who had me write out my daily activities in 30-minute increments for the week. It opened my eyes to how much time I was wasting on mindless tasks that didn’t move me forward. I started creating routines that actually helped me grow.
The goal of this blog is to help you find your version of balance. You don’t have to lose yourself in the chaos of motherhood, school, or work. In fact, you shouldn’t. You are B.R.I Naturally: Beautiful, Resilient, and Innovative — Naturally. Say it to yourself daily, and more importantly, believe it.
💆Skincare Is My Daily Check-In
I started BriNaturally in 2018 with one goal: to inspire women and moms to realize how amazing they truly are. One of the ways I help do that is through the Chill Kit — a skincare toolkit designed not just for beauty, but for emotional and physical relief.
Skincare has become more than just a beauty routine to me. It’s a moment to pause, reset, and check in with myself. It forces me to slow down and look in the mirror — not just to cleanse or treat my skin, but to love what I see. Even just three minutes of intentional skincare while listening to lo-fi music can shift your whole mood.
💻Tech Goals Without Burnout
Studying cybersecurity in college feels like learning a whole new language—so I’ve had to get really intentional with how I use my time. My 30-minute block schedule has helped me manage studying and coursework without burning out.
As a woman in her mid-30s going back to college, I was nervous about how I’d keep up. What helps? Tools like Google Calendar to track appointments and reminders, and a cute paper planner just for my blog tasks. I write down blog content, marketing ideas, and product work in a separate space from school stuff — so I can focus clearly on each area.
For school assignments, I always check due dates ahead of time and plan study blocks where I won’t be interrupted. If you’re juggling multiple responsibilities, here’s my tip: study for 20 minutes, meditate or take a break for 5, then study again for 20 more. It’s a rhythm that helps with focus and retention.
And believe it or not, blogging has actually helped me in tech. Writing has sharpened my communication skills, boosted my discipline, and helped me reflect on my growth.
💕Mom First, But Not Only
Being an active mom is still one of my top priorities. Shifting from being a full-time homeschool mom to a college student was a big change for my kids. Thankfully, I have a supportive husband and family that help keep things running smoothly.
But I know not everyone has that kind of support. That’s why having a realistic system is so important. Whether it’s asking for help from trusted people or creating structured routines, there are ways to be present for your kids and still pursue your goals.
Being an active mom doesn’t always mean doing everything — it means showing up with love. That could be reading together, taking them to the park, or just having distraction-free meals. Use that 30-minute block schedule to make time for both your kids and yourself.
What Keeps Me Grounded
My grounding habits include a spiritual routine, my skincare practice, and some kind of physical movement. I aim for skincare twice a day, but even once is my non-negotiable.
I’ve also committed to working out at least once a week since starting school, and that’s helped with both my mental and physical strength. Meeting with my mentor weekly keeps me accountable and supported, especially now that I’m diving into networking topics in my cybersecurity program. Having someone to talk to has helped reduce anxiety and keep me motivated.
It’s Not Perfect — But It’s Mine
Balance doesn’t mean perfection. Sometimes, life just gets chaotic. For example, the past two weeks, everyone in the house was sick except me — so I was in overdrive. But I reminded myself that I’m capable, and that I don’t have to do everything perfectly to keep moving forward.
I’m learning to give myself grace. Things may not look ideal every day, but I’m proud of the progress I’m making in this season.
You’re allowed to grow, shift, mess up, and try again. That’s balance, too.
The Takeaway
Finding balance isn't about doing everything perfectly. It's about creating space to grow, showing up with purpose, and not being hard on yourself along the way. Whether it's skincare, school, motherhood, or stepping into a new field like tech, progress is what matters. You don't need to have it all figured out to keep moving forward.
If you’re ready to slow down and give back to yourself—even just a little—The Chill Kit was made for moments like this. It’s a simple way to reset, recharge, and stay grounded while you build the life you’re working for. [Grab yours here].
